Short report

Monday, May 16, 2016 the Faculty of Physics together with the Faculty of Foreign languages held the 1 st  Conference of TSU Physics Students” which heralded a new stage in the English language project aimed at the enhancement of physics student English skills. T he event included the opportunity for students at bachelor, master and doctoral level to present their research in English, whilst listening and interacting with invited speakers of international reputation. Among key note-speakers were Dr. Tiago Carlos Adorno de Freitas,   a  visiting PhD researcher , a participant of  a joint RSF project  "Some Problems of Strong Interactions and Intense Fields in Modern Quantum Field Theory", who kindly agreed to give a talk on    “Strong electromagnetic fields in modern physics”, and Murali Balasubramoniam Krishna, a post doc at Optics and Spectroscopy Department at TSU, who provided an exciting overview of “Educational system in India”.  The main component of the conference consisted of reports given by the students themselves for other students. The students presented oral reports  on various topics related to physics in English (See the programme  http://viu.tsu.ru/news/project/2379/ ) and got feedback on their work during a poster session.
Everyone involved agreed that the conference provided the participants with a forum to exchange scientific ideas, inspire new research and, of course, to demonstrate their English language communication skills. As it was put by one of the lecturers at the Department of Physics Dmitriy Bezrodnyy : ”Given that our particular establishment has been all about innovations lately it is extremely important to introduce as many similar study programmes and events as possible.
Just look at the students, how enthusiastic and passionate they are about this programme. Never ever have I seen anything like this. All because they see the point of their studying. They understand how exactly they can use and apply the obtained knowledge in real life and they want more!... This is the future of education, concise and aware of the actual needs of the students.
Here we stand tall before the grandeur of it all.”
Additional bonus for the participants of the event was arranged by the organizing committee.
Knowing that one absorbs information best when the surroundings are inspiring the organizers made it possible for the participants to derive inspiration from a magnificent design of a Big Conference-Hall  at TSU Research library which served as a perfect conference venue.
